Prepare to run

Ever feared falling and breaking fragile bones as you smack the hard tarmac? Or tearing major ligaments when you’re out on a long run? These types of fears can prevent people from running altogether, missing out on its joys because of insufficient mental and physical education and preparation.
Problems arise when individuals start a new training regime recklessly and ignorantly, ultimately to their detriment as they inevitably end up damaging themselves, never to return again.
“PREPARE TO RUN” covers the basic fundamentals of achieving health and fitness success in your sport, addressing all components of body conditioning, from eating through to professional training.
My philosophy of training for life begins with learning how to train before training to compete. My “PREPARE TO RUN” programme covers all aspects of fitness in an informative and practical manner, equipping you to understand how your body adapts physiologically to exercise workloads while experiencing the benefits for yourself.
Our environment in this day and age is negatively affecting how our bodies move. We need to realise this in order to progress beyond mere running, to conditioning or preparing ourselves for running. We need to condition ourselves before we can run our best.
Although running springs from an instinctive response or functional movement, few seem to do it well. It is actually more complex that one might believe, requiring patience, persistence, experience, knowledge and hard work.
Conditioning ourselves to run bio-mechanically will help us to run correctly, which will lead to improved running efficiency and economy. As a result, running will become more comfortable, natural and enjoyable.
The average weight of impact applied to the body’s skeleton when running is 6-11 times greater than our own body mass. This impact can also vary depending on speed and whether we are running on a gradient. No wonder many people never wear out their first pair of running shoes!
Successful running involves all components of fitness conditioning, not just body conditioning from running. Running requires speed, endurance, flexibility, strength, mental attitude and co-ordination.
As science has continued to evolve over the years, it has revealed completely new ways of training to promote optimal running efficiency without injuries or pain. We can now actually have fun building up to the ultimate running experience! The process has become continuous and progressive and—above all—enjoyable.
If you had a premature burnout but have realised that you are now ready to give running a second chance, or you know someone who could benefit from my programme, spread the word and abolish fears so that we can run at our best – happy, healthy and injury free!
